With a history of 1,800 years, dumpling is not only a staple food in China, but also considered an essential dish in various festivals, especially Chinese New Year, to symbolize fortune and well wishes. To help celebrate the Year of the Dragon, Elaine Sher, the founder of Dash of Soy Culinary School, is hosting a fundraising online dumpling class for Skate Journeys. All the proceeds (minus cost) from the class will be donated to Skate Journeys. Elaine is also a Skate Journey’s Level 1 Certified Instructor.
This 2-hour online cooking class is based on a family recipe from Hong Kong. The class is interactive, full of amazing family and travel stories, and was rated one of the best in the world. We will start by making the dough for the wrappers from scratch. Then prepare the filling, roll the wrappers, learn different ways to pleat a dumpling, and pan-fry them to perfection before the end of the class. The recipe is based on a Pork and Cabbage dumpling but can be easily adjusted for any dietary preferences: vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free.
