MEET OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Karina currently lives the RV life, roaming around the country with her husband. She loves the Skate Journey’s mission and has been re-discovering her love of in-line skating since connecting with Skate Journeys.
Brian Long has been a skater for most of his life, putting on his first pair of skates at about 6 years old. He has also worked in the skate industry for over 10 years. Most of Brian’s skating background has been in ‘aggressive’ skating, and he has spent significant time practicing and enjoying all styles of skating.
Brian owns and operates the US online store and Seattle storefront for Shop Task skate shop. His involvement with Skate Journeys began when he moved to Seattle from Vancouver, BC to open the Shop Task storefront, which introduced him to Trish Alexander and the Skate Journeys community!
Whether it be through accessibility to the right products, teaching, or community building, Brian is passionate about providing experiences that help others enjoy skating to its fullest potential.
Jean loves building authentic, diverse, and inclusive teams with people who like to have fun and accomplish great things together. He became a Skate IA Certified Skate Instructor in July 2020 and completed his first skate marathon in September 2020. In addition to being the Board Secretary, he is also an Instructor for Skate Journeys.
Lis Christine Lutz
Lis is a CPA with over 20 years of experience in accounting, primarily with financial reporting. She currently works in local government and has several years’ experience in the Public Accounting and Banking industries. Having had minimal roller-skating experience at a local rink as a kid, Lis learned to skate inline at Skate Journeys in her 40’s. She then went on to amaze herself by becoming a certified skate instructor with Skate IA. In 2018 Lis branched out to artistic skating and managed to qualify and compete at USARS Nationals in 2019. She is currently working on AARS achievement tests and plans to compete again in the 2023 season.
Irene Pasternack has skated with Skate Journeys since 2002, and taught for Skate Journeys since 2007. After 25 years in tech, a combination of recovering from a disc injury and discovering the joy of teaching skating led her to switch careers and become a Feldenkrais Practitioner, working with people to overcome movement challenges and improve balance and ability to learn new skills. She now both roller skates and ice skates, and is a member of the Washington Ice Emeralds synchronized skating team. She is passionate about building a new roller rink on the Eastside. When not skating, she can be found in her garden or leading hiking trips with llamas.
