First Time at Skate Journeys?

Welcome! Here’s what you need to know before your first lesson.

Your First Lesson
• All new students—whether beginners or experienced skaters—start with Beginner 1 class.
• This class introduces you to Skate Journeys and places you in the right level for future lessons.
Duration: 1-hour group lesson
Free Rentals: Inline skates and protective gear included for your first two classes.

Beginner Skaters
• Start with Beginner 1 – First Class and Beginner 2.
• These classes are designed to kickstart your inline and roller skating journey.

Experienced or Self-Taught Skaters
• Begin with Beginner 1 – First Class for a skill evaluation.
Important: Tell your instructor at the start of class that you need an evaluation.
• Beginner classes start 15 minutes early for evaluations and placement.

After Your Lesson
• Enjoy Open Skate Sessions to practice and socialize.

Tips for Success

Skates & Gear
Free rentals for your first two classes; after that, a rental fee applies.
• We encourage you to purchase your own equipment. [More info]

Helmets
Utility-style helmets offer the best protection.
• Bike helmets are okay if they fit properly.
• Rentals available, but bringing your own is highly recommended. [Helmet fitting guide]

Socks
Wear socks that go above the ankle to prevent bruising.
• Choose Smart Wool or synthetic fabrics; avoid cotton.

Clothing
Wear comfortable clothes and layer so that are easy to remove—new skaters often get warm quickly.

Additional Tips
• Bring a water bottle (Lynnwood location does not provide water).
• Use the restroom before class.
• Arrive 10–15 minutes early; late arrivals cannot extend lesson time.
